Activities Sponsored by the SAR for America’s Youth
To meet the objectives of our organization, the the National Society sponsors a number of programs dedicated to our nation’s youth. Our chapter is committed to supporting SAR youth programs.
Elementary School
For Elementary School students, our Americanism Elementary School Poster Contest is fun and instructive. This contest offers cash prizes to the winners who draw posters which depict an event during the Revolutionary War based on a specified theme . The posters ar drawn on standard 22″ by 28″ poster paper. Prizes offered at National, State and Chapter levels.The posters are judged on their originality, research on the theme, artistry, and relevance to the theme.
Middle School
For Middle School Students, we participate in the California Society’s Middle School Brochure Contest where 8th graders write a short essay on the relevance of the Revolution to modern times. The essay is to be presented on a single sheet of 8 1/2″ x 11″ sheet of paper, folded in thirds. There are State and Chapter awards.
High School
High School students compete in our Knight Essay Contest, writing a 750 word essay on any element of the Revolutionary War or the U.S. Constitution. Cash awards at Chapter, State and National levels.
The Historical Oration Contest is designed to explore the influence of the Revolutionary War on present day America. This is a national contest and contestants shall be in high school during the contest year.
ROTC/JROTC, Eagle Scouts, Sea Scouts, Teachers
Every spring, our chapter awards medals to outstanding ROTC/JROTC, Eagle Scouts, Sea Scouts, and selected high school leaders. Awards are made to recognize exemplary service by our police and fire departments, too. And each year we select an outstanding teacher for a trip to Valley Forge for a leaders conference and workshop.
